Art is a means of communication and it makes us feel, reflect, and seek more. Works of art that have the environment and its social dimensions as their basis to explore and create offer a sensory and intellectual path to complement and expand in new ways our views on those topics. Through this selection of Latin American artists, it is possible to identify not only how they establish a dialogue with global environmental art, but also how historical and ethnographic research as well as political and grass-roots perspectives are incorporated in their works.
The descriptions below have been written by undergraduate student Sarah Burchfield upon information provided for a course assignment and edited by Professor Rosas Buendia. They offer an approximation to each artist’s themes and aesthetic, a comment on some specific pieces, and links to explore more of their work. Enjoy this selection and share it with others.
